Who can appear for REET
REET (Rajasthan Eligibility Examination for Teachers) is the qualifying test for teaching posts in Rajasthan government schools. It is conducted at two levels, each with distinct eligibility requirements.
Level 1 — Primary teacher (Classes 1 to 5)
- Senior Secondary (12th) with at least 50% marks, plus a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), or
- Senior Secondary with at least 45% marks and D.El.Ed in accordance with NCTE norms, or
- Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a four-year B.El.Ed
Level 2 — Upper primary teacher (Classes 6 to 8)
- Graduation with a Diploma in Elementary Education, or
- Graduation with at least 50% marks and B.Ed, or
- Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a four-year B.El.Ed
Choosing between Level 1 and Level 2
Candidates eligible for both may appear for both, and many do. Level 1 focuses on child development and pedagogy alongside language, mathematics and environmental studies. Level 2 requires a subject specialisation — either Mathematics and Science, or Social Studies — which means deeper subject knowledge but a narrower syllabus.
Certificate validity
A REET qualification certificate is valid for a defined period as specified in the governing notification, and qualifying REET makes you eligible to apply for teacher recruitment — it is not itself an appointment. Selection depends on the subsequent recruitment process and merit.
