Why typing decides LDC selection

The Rajasthan LDC typing test is qualifying in nature, but every year a significant number of candidates who clear the written paper fail here. Target speeds are approximately 25 words per minute in Hindi and 30 words per minute in English, with accuracy mattering as much as raw speed.

Ten practical tips

1. Fix your finger placement first. Home-row discipline feels slower for about two weeks, then overtakes hunt-and-peck permanently. Do not skip this stage.
2. Never look at the keyboard. Cover your hands with a cloth if needed. Looking down caps your ceiling speed.
3. Practise the Krutidev or Mangal layout you will actually be tested on. Confirm the required Hindi font and layout from the official notification before building muscle memory on the wrong one.
4. Accuracy before speed. Aim for 98% accuracy at a slow pace, then increase speed. Errors cost more than slowness.
5. Practise 20 minutes daily, not 3 hours weekly. Typing is motor learning; frequency beats duration.
6. Type real exam-style passages. Official-language paragraphs with numbers and punctuation are harder than casual text.
7. Learn the number row properly. Most candidates lose time on digits and symbols because they never practised them.
8. Do not correct mid-sentence. Deciding when to fix an error wastes seconds. Finish the line, then review if time allows.
9. Simulate the real environment. Practise on a standard external keyboard, seated upright, with a timer visible.
10. Track weekly, not daily. Daily fluctuation is noise. Compare week to week.
